Raheem Morris Is New Falcons Head Coach

The Atlanta Falcons will formally introduce Raheem Morris as their new head coach after a two-week wait since the announcement that Morris had been selected for that position. “Morris is scheduled to hold a press conference on Monday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. ET.” The official announcement was delayed until Morris filled positions within his coaching staff. Most recently, Morris had been the Falcons assistant head coach/wide receivers coach.

Morris had been the defensive coordinator for the Los Angles Rams and had been affiliated with the Falcons from 2015 to 2020, which included “a stint as interim head coach.” Morris is the first Black Falcons head coach. Morris begins his tenure by taking over head coaching duties from Arthur Smith, “who was let go after the 2023-2024 season.”

Since being selected as head coach, Morris has been selecting his staff, which is large and activity specific. His most recent hire has been former “Los Angeles Chargers assistant Kevin Koger as tight ends coach.” Other of the numerous coaching hires include “former Rams assistant Nick Jones as assistant offensive line coach, former Nebraska assistant Barrett Ruud as inside linebackers coach and Chandler Whitmer as passing game specialist.” As reported, Whitmer was an offensive quality control coach for the Chargers the last three seasons.

Additional coaching hires or retentions include Steven King, who will remain on the staff as a special teams assistant. “Ike Hilliard was hired as wide receivers coach.” Morris selected coordinators Zac Robinson to head the offense and Jimmy Lake to run the defense. “Special teams coordinator Marquice Williams was retained from the 2023 staff.”

Some of the staff that will continue employment include “run game coordinator and offensive line coach Dwayne Ledford, quarterbacks coach T.J. Yates, assistant head coach for defense Jerry Gray, senior defensive assistant Dave Huxtable, running backs coach Michael Pitre, director of coaching operations Sarah Hogan and coaching operations assistant Donavan Ellison.”
