Former NFL star Sean Vanhorse joins Doc & The Block this week to discuss his journey from college walk-on to NFL star cornerback and his current gig as a life insurance agent focused on helping others create generational wealth for their families.
“When I came out of high school, I didn’t really have any scholarship opportunities,” Vanhorse tells Doc & The Block, adding that he managed to secure a scholarship after his first semester at Howard University.
“I tell everybody that because there’s no easy path, right? We all have different paths and go different places,” Vanhorse said. “You just got to find your way, and there’s always an opportunity if you continue to work, continue to put God first, and continue to keep your head down.”
Vanhorse and Doc & The Block discuss the importance of hard work, community, and faith in God as the key ingredients to a life well-lived.
Drafted in the sixth round of the 1990 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins, Vanhorse went on to play for the Chargers, Lions, and Vikings. Over 70 career games, he recorded six interceptions and one touchdown.
Vanhorse spent three seasons with the Chargers, followed by single seasons with the Lions and Vikings. His best years came in San Diego, where he started regularly and made five of his six career interceptions.
