At just 13 years old, Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel has faced challenges that many can’t imagine. Diagnosed with brain cancer in 2018 and given only five months to live, DJ has defied the odds and pursued his dream of becoming a law enforcement officer.
Since his diagnosis, DJ has been sworn in as an honorary officer by over 900 law enforcement agencies across the United States, showcasing his unwavering spirit and dedication.
On Tuesday night, during President Trump’s joint address to Congress, DJ was made an honorary Secret Service agent. Dressed in his Houston Police Department uniform, DJ received a standing ovation as Secret Service Director Sean Curran presented him with an official badge.
The following day, DJ and his family visited the Oval Office, where he shared a heartfelt hug with President Trump, expressing his gratitude for the honor.
DJ’s journey has not only fulfilled his personal dreams but has also raised awareness for childhood cancer and inspired countless individuals with his resilience and positivity.
His father, Theodis Daniel, expressed pride in his son’s achievements and hopes that DJ’s story will continue to inspire others facing similar challenges.
The father-son duo was shocked by what happened at the joint session.
“It left us speechless. I can tell you we weren’t expecting that. We didn’t even know what was going on. Actually, they kept a secret from us,” Theodis said.
“We just have to turn something that most of us see as bad and tragic into something positive,” Theodis added. “We’re supposed to be in the business of trying to inspire people to be a better version of themselves despite what you’re going through.”
DJ’s unwavering determination and the support he has received from communities nationwide serve as a testament to the power of hope and perseverance.
As DJ continues his battle against cancer, his story remains a beacon of strength and inspiration for many.
