Atlanta, Georgia, is one of the best cities in the country to stay at home and relax this summer, according to a new study by WalletHub.
“Around 82% of Americans plan to travel this summer, but high costs may force some people to cut back on their expenses and take a less extravagant trip…or even stay home,” the study said. “Fortunately, you don’t need to travel far to have a great time. You might be surprised to find that your city (or other cities within day-trip range) can offer plenty of options for entertainment and relaxation at a great price point.”
The study examined more than 180 American cities to find their viability for a frugal staycation and used 42 key metrics, including the number of hiking trails and tennis courts, the idealness of each city’s summer weather, and the quality of nightlife options.
After tabulating the results, the study found that Atlanta is the 8th best place in the country to have a staycation. The city ranked number one for ice cream and frozen yogurt shops per capita, and also ranked highly for its parks and swimming pools.
The top spot was taken by Orlando, Florida, followed by Honolulu, Hawaii, and Cincinatti, Ohio.
