12-Year-Old Girl Shot At Georgia Apartment Complex

On Wednesday, a 12-year-old girl was shot during an argument in the parking lot of an apartment complex of Georgia’s DeKalb County, police said.

“Officers were called out around noon to the 4700 block of Central Drive, just west of North Hairston Road,” Fox 5 Atlanta reported. “DeKalb County police say officers found the 12-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to an area hospital. Her condition was not immediately known.”

Investigators reportedly said that the girl’s mother and “a known suspect” were in an argument when the shooting occurred.

Two people have been taken into custody as the case remains under investigation.

The incident is the latest in a worsening series of children and young people falling victim to gun violence in Georgia.

According to a report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the number of children and young people killed by gun violence in Atlanta this year dwarves the number killed in 2021, which itself was already a high number.

“In 2021, more than two dozen children and teenagers were killed by gun violence in metro Atlanta and several others were injured. That violence has continued in 2022,” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. “As of Dec. 4, there have been at least 71 children under the age of 18 shot. Of them at least 37 have died.”
