Woman in Fayette County, Georgia Killed in Shootout After Abduction

Cameron Ja’Michael Hopkins is a 20-year-old male who had what has been described in the media as “an ex-girlfriend,” who has been identified as Khaliyah Jones, nineteen years old. Hopkins abducted Jones and subsequently shot her to death.

Events describing Hopkins abducting Jones began, as reported, at approximately 11 pm on Sunday, July 16. “Fayetteville police responded to an emergency call reporting a kidnapping at the Wingstop located on North Glynn Street.” Witnesses called 911 and reported that “Hopkins forcefully entered the restaurant and coerced his ex-girlfriend, Jones, to leave at gunpoint.”

Witnesses informed law enforcement that Hopkins drove off in a red Camaro with Jones in the vehicle. Hopkins’ vehicle was spotted by responding officers and who initiated pursuit. Reporting discloses that the chase ensued down Banks Road, where Hopkins suddenly accelerated, entering Clayton County territory.

A description of the maneuvers performed by the Fayetteville police to immobilize Hopkins’ automobile includes a tactical maneuver known as a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) was executed. Gunfire was exchanged among the police and Hopkins. “During this maneuver, several gunshots were reportedly discharged from the Camaro, at the officers, endangering their lives. The law enforcement personnel returned fire.”

As reported, “Shots were also fired inside the vehicle.” Hopkins shot Jones several times. Police recovered Jones’ body from Hopkins’ vehicle. She had suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hopkins, was apprehended by the joint efforts of the Fayetteville and Clayton County police departments. “Fayetteville police took custody of Hopkins after a chemical irritant was sprayed into the car.” Hopkins is expected to face charges of kidnapping and aggravated assault. Clayton County police will investigate Jones’ death and “further charges may result.” Additional information later discovered indicates tempestuous details in their past. “Following the incident, it was revealed that Hopkins had kidnapped Jones one year ago and was facing charges for that incident.”
