The White House released a statement on Laken Riley’s brutal murder last week at the University of Georgia. Police have charged Jose Ibarra, a 26-year-old Venezuelan immigrant for Riley’s murder. Ibarra is an illegal alien who has been living in the U.S.
Ibarra murdered Riley in a particularly grotesque manner. “Court documents allege that Ibarra didn’t simply kill Riley. Rather, police accuse him of “disfiguring her skull.” As expected, the “heinous crime has brought increased attention to the border crisis and President Joe Biden’s immigration policies.” The Ibarra episode is an illuminating example of the indifference with which this government treats dangerous illegal aliens.
Addressing this monstrous murder, on Monday, a White House spokesperson released the following statement: “We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Laken Hope Riley. People should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law if they are found to be guilty. Given this is an active case, we would have to refer you to state law enforcement and ICE.”
As reported, public reaction to this White House statement was immediate and condemning. “The lackluster statement — which doesn’t, in fact, include any word from President Biden himself — was quickly slammed.” Much of the public commentary addressed the fact that Ibarra was not held accountable at all for illegally entering the United States.
Background information reported by Blaze News and other outlets discloses that “Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed that Ibarra entered the U.S. illegally in September 2022.” Background reporting also informs that “About a year later, Ibarra was arrested in New York City for “acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 and a motor vehicle license violation.” But he was “released by the NYPD before a detainer could be issued,” ICE said. Ibarra then moved to Georgia sometime last fall.”
Statements from several politicians were reported in the media. For example, Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) said: “No statement from Biden? Just a few cold words from a press aide. Pathetic.” Rep. Eric Burlison (R-Mo.) said: “Once again, Biden refuses to take accountability for creating the worst border disaster in American history.”
