Most businesses spend their first month worrying about themselves. Lydia and Ben Olu-Harding spent their time worrying about homeless students in the community.
The couple had barely flipped the sign at their new Big Frog Custom T-Shirts shop in East Cobb before they launched a fundraiser. They call it “Room for Everyone,” and the goal is to raise $10,000 by the end of the month — with 60 percent of every dollar going straight to homeless students and their families at nearby Wheeler High School.
The idea grew out of their own kitchen table. “We have three children; we are connected in the community. We see needs around us every day, and we wanted to figure out a way to make that connection,” Olu-Harding said.
So they did what a T-shirt shop does best — they put the message on a shirt. One design shows an old Southern table with three mismatched dining chairs and the words “room for everyone.” Another is a cheerful smiley design for kids. The shirts do double duty: they raise the money, and they carry the point.
There’s something fitting about a business named after a small frog jumping straight into the deep end. Most folks wait until they’re comfortable before they start giving. The Olu-Hardings decided comfort could wait. The kids couldn’t.
You can see the designs and order online through the Big Frog East Cobb campaign portal. A shirt costs you a few dollars. For a Wheeler High family, it might mean a good deal more.
