SPLC Defends Employee For Allegedly Committing Domestic Terrorism

The Southern Poverty Law Center has responded to the news that one of its employees allegedly committed domestic terrorism by participating in the ambush of police officers in Atlanta in protest of the construction of an Atlanta Police Department training facility, which had been dubbed “Cop City” by its opponents.

As explained by The Post Millennial, “Around 5:30 on March 5, about a hundred militants broke off from a protest in the South River Forest area southeast of Atlanta to launch an attack on nearby police. The officers were guarding a construction site of a future first responder training facility that members of the extremist group seek to stop. Their violence has escalated in recent months, leading to a deadly shooting in January and 19 of their members being charged with terror offenses so far.”

“They changed into black clothing and entered the construction area and began to throw large rocks, bricks, Molotov cocktails, and fireworks at police officers,” the Atlanta Police said in a statement about the attack.

One of the alleged domestic terrorists is an employee and staff attorney for the Southern Poverty Law Center, which has ironically been commonly used by the FBI as a source for domestic terrorism.

“Law enforcement detained at least 35 demonstrators in Atlanta on Sunday, including an SPLC employee who was arrested while acting — and identifying — as a legal observer,” the SPLC claimed. “This is part of a months-long escalation of policing tactics against protesters and observers who oppose the destruction of the Weelaunee Forest to build a police training facility.”

“The SPLC will continue to urge de-escalation of violence and police use of force against Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities — working in partnership to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements and advance the human rights of all people,” the organization said as it defended an employee for allegedly violently ambushing police officers.
