On Friday, police searched a lake at East Point apartment complex in the search for 2-year-old J’Asiah Mitchell who went missing earlier this week.
The boy’s father, Artavious North, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly lying about the child’s disappearance.
Investigators have now turned their focus on the East Point complex where North lives with his girlfriend.
Family members of the 2-year-old boy gathered nearby as the East Point Police and city water crews drained the lake on the grounds of the Elite at Lakeview Apartment Complex on Lakeview Place in their search.
Police now say North was lying when he reported the child was kidnapped by armed men as he was leaving an apartment complex on Flat Shoals Road in Panthersville on Wednesday night.
North had told investigators that the boy was kidnapped from his DeKalb County apartment complex during an armed robbery. However, investigators say that “there was no armed robbery nor kidnapping in DeKalb County.” North has been arrested for making false statements and filing a false report of a crime.
