Former Georgia Governor and President Jimmy Carter had a “good day” on Sunday and could still have some time left before he passes, according to his niece Leanne Smith.
Smith said the former president is still talking and eating, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
Smith said Carter is still talking and eating and that he requested she bring him soup for dinner
“He had a good day,” Smith said. “In fact, about 30 minutes ago, I got a text. They knew I made broccoli and cheese soup, so before I came to meet with you, I dropped broccoli and cheese soup off to be delivered to the house, because he’s eating and talking … so it is amazing. He’s still got some time in him. I just feel like it.”
The news comes after it was recently announced that Carter had decided to spend his remaining time in hospice care with his family instead of receiving additional medical intervention.
“Carter beat brain cancer in 2015 but faced a series of health scares in 2019, and consequentially underwent surgery to remove pressure on his brain. His health woes forced him to give up his decades-long tradition of teaching Sunday school at Maranatha Baptist Church in his hometown of Plains, Georgia,” CNN reported.
