Hurricane Hero: Contractor Rebuilds Community for Free After Hurricane Helene

Jake Jarvis, owner of Precision Grading Construction and Demolition, has been a lifeline for North Carolina residents after Hurricane Helene struck three months ago. Using his own resources, Jarvis has provided free demolition and construction work to help rebuild the community.

Jarvis has taken on a variety of projects, including demolishing damaged homes, building bridges, and clearing river crossings. His efforts have saved locals tens of thousands of dollars in labor costs. Despite the overwhelming need, he continues to push forward, with nearly 30 people still waiting for his help.

One of his most impactful projects involved an elderly couple whose river crossing was destroyed. They were forced to walk half a mile each day to reach their home. Jarvis stepped in and built a new crossing, restoring their access.

Another family, a grandmother and her grandchildren, lost their home in the hurricane. Before demolishing the structure, Jarvis carefully salvaged sentimental items, including a cherished chandelier and a copy of The Little Prince.

His work has not gone unnoticed. Bat Cave Fire Department Chief Steve Freeman called Jarvis a “godsend,” praising his dedication and selflessness. Residents have come together to support him, but much of his work is still self-funded.

Jarvis relies on personal savings and donations to keep these efforts going. Those who wish to help can send contributions via check to 99 Polaris Drive, Saluda, NC, 28773.

His generosity has given hope to many who lost everything in the storm. While the road to recovery is long, Jarvis remains committed to rebuilding—one project at a time.
