Honoring a Legacy: Juanita H. Gardner Village Opens, Provides Housing for Community Seniors [WATCH]

This week, Atlanta City Council member Andrea L. Boone joined community members for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Juanita H. Gardner Village — a development featuring 108 units in a state-of-the-art, three-story elevator-accessible building.

The development aims to make significant strides in housing Atlanta’s seniors and is named after Juanita H. Gardner — a long-time neighborhood association leader and community activist.

“We are envisioning a vibrant and promising future of affordable housing for our seniors. This community is inspired by a deep commitment to fostering dignity, security, and opportunity for our golden residents,” said Council member Boone.

“We also take a moment to celebrate and honor the remarkable legacy of Juanita H. Gardner, a beloved community activist and longtime NPU-H Chair. Her tireless dedication, leadership, and passion have paved the way for progress and unity. We will continue to build a future that reflects her vision of a stronger, unified, and more inclusive community,” Boone added.

The project was a collaboration between Atlanta Housing, Invest Atlanta, and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

“Today, we celebrate a significant milestone in our commitment to Atlanta’s seniors,” said Terri M. Lee, President and CEO of Atlanta Housing. “With an initial investment exceeding $5.2 million and an estimated 15-year rent subsidy of about $19 million, Atlanta Housing is investing in people, not just properties. We are committed to ensuring that seniors have safe, dignified housing options in the very communities they have worked so hard to shape. This achievement demonstrates how collaboration can create transformative solutions to address Atlanta’s affordable housing needs.”
