Georgia Representative Tish Naghise Dies

Georgia House Rep. Letitia “Tish” Naghise (D-Fayetteville), a first term-member, has died. 

Naghise had been recently elected and was sworn in on January 9. A cause of death has not been released yet. 

According to Kaleb McMichen, a spokesperson for House Speaker Jon Burns, Naghise died Wednesday in Atlanta after being hospitalized for several days in Piedmont Hospital.

“She was an extraordinary servant leader, an extraordinary and multifaceted leader, who didn’t start or stop with the legislature,” said Wan Smith, who supervised Naghise when she worked for the Georgia Conservation Voters Education Fund, an environmental advocacy group, according to the Associated Press. 

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp responded to the news in a statement on Twitter.

“Marty, the girls, and I are saddened to learn of Representative Letitia ‘Tish’ Neghise’s passing,” Kemp wrote. “Though her time in the legislature was brief, we know she cared deeply for the people of Fayetteville and the surrounding area. As her family, friends, and fellow Georgia House members recall her contributions and mourn this loss, we will keep them in our hearts and prayers.”
