A little girl meets one of her heroes…
According to an 11Alive.com report, 10-year-old para-gymnast Charlotte Elson, who has an ulnar deficiency, recently met Olympic hero Dominque Dawes.
Elson met Dawes at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Arthur M. Blank Hospital.
Elson asked Dawes questions about her career, got to hold her gold medal, and even got her prosthetic arm signed by Dawes.
The Orthotics and Prosthetics team at Children’s designed Elson’s prosthetic, giving her the chance to continue and grow as a gymnast.
According to Children’s, the prosthetic arm helped Elson compete in her first paragymnast competition in February.
Dawes competed in Barcelona in 1992, Sydney in 2000, and Atlanta in 1996, when she and the Magnificent Seven won the first-ever gold medal for the U.S. in a women’s gymnastics team competition.
