In this episode, Georgia State Representative Mesha Mainor joined the Doc and the Block podcast to discuss her upbringing and the obstacles she’s had to overcome throughout her life to get where she is today, along with her recent switch from the Democratic to Republican party.
Mainor was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and lived in an area with failing schools which caused her mom to send her to the other side of the city to attend school. Mainor graduated from Benjamin Elijah Mays High School, and she went on to receive a BS in Health Science and Master’s degree in physical therapy at Howard University.
In 2020, Mainor was elected as a Democrat to the Georgia House of Representatives for the 56th district. After divisions between her and the Democratic party grew because she believed their policies did not actually help minority communities, most notably their opposition to school vouchers, Mainor switched to the Republican party in 2023.
