Ep 31 – Alice Marie Johnson: The Future can always be better (Part 2)

In this episode, Alice Marie Johnson, a minister and American criminal justice reform advocate, continued her discussion from last week with the Doc and the Block podcast.

After going through a divorce with her husband of 19 years and losing her youngest son in a scooter accident when he was 12 years old, Johnson began making poor decisions and became involved in a Memphis cocaine trafficking organization. In 1996, she was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

During her time in prison, Johnson became an ordained minister and a certified hospice worker. Her accomplishments and good behavior led to her gaining support for her release from staff members at the prison she was incarcerated at, FCI Aliceville.

After a campaign supporting her release was launched by the American Civil Liberties Union, then-President Donald Trump granted her clemency, thereby commuting her sentence, in 2018.

During the episode, Johnson continues to explain how she got her life back on track and became successful after serving more than two decades in prison for her involvement in the cocaine trafficking organization.
