According to a Fox 5 Atlanta report, Goodr — an organization on a mission to end waste, fight hunger, and feed communities using the power of technology and logistics — has opened a new location in southwest Atlanta.
Mayor Andre Dickens, Goodr founder and CEO Jasmine Crowe-Houston, and city officials marked the opening of the new facility on Monday.
Officials say the store will provide 100 local families and seniors free monthly access to nutritious food in an area formerly considered a “food desert.”
“What a perfect place to open a Goodr store here at the William Walker Rec Center,” Dickens said. “A pillar of service to our community for decades.”
According to its website, Goodr believes “hunger isn’t a scarcity issue. It’s a matter of logistics. Goodr was founded on the simple yet powerful idea that we need to feed more and waste less. What started as a local initiative to feed people experiencing food insecurity in Atlanta has grown into a national network with long-lasting impact.”
The Goodr store is in an area with major barriers to accessing healthy foods, including a lack of grocery stores, low incomes and no transportation.
