Michael Allen Reno was driving a car “that was either stolen or had stolen license plates.” As reported, “Police said they tried to pull Reno over at around 4 p.m.” The narrative continued, informing that “Reno fled to Amy Drive NE. Officers tried to coax him out of the vehicle. Reno ran out of the car, into a home and barricaded himself inside.”
The police then learned “Reno was also wanted in a series of thefts of guns and large amounts of cash. They believed he was armed.” A viewer on the scene reportedly called “the tip” into the FOX 5 newsroom Saturday evening, informing that the “Marietta police and local SWAT teams were calling out for Reno to come out with his hands up.”
The efforts of the police for a peaceful resolution were impressive. “Immediate neighbors were evacuated as officers continued their efforts to negotiate. At one point, they began blasting loud sounds from outside, unsure if Reno could hear them from inside the home.” Additionally, at 10:15 p.m., police sent in drones to scope out the scene. By 10:40 p.m., McPhilamy said operators forced their way into the back of the home and found two people dead – a woman and the suspect, Reno.”
Officer Chuck McPhilamy expressed the scope of the police concerns. “It’s our goal to make sure we get him in our custody without harm to him or anyone else.” McPhilamy then identified the risks in the operation. “Knowing that he is a suspect for quite a large amount of weapons, certainly it has everyone here playing it safe and trying to go as methodically as we can.”
