A Great Lady Lost: Tina Turner Dead At 83

The great legendary singer Tina Turner died today at the age of 83. “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner,” a spokesperson said in a post on Turner’s Facebook page.

The praise acknowledged Tina Turner’s worldwide scope and veneration. “With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow.” Losing a dear friend eludes words. “Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”

Tina Turner was an American-born and naturalized Swiss singer, dancer, actress, and author. Turner got her start alongside her ex-husband Ike Turner. Widely referred to as the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” Tina Turner “rose to prominence as the lead singer of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue before launching a successful career as a solo performer.”

Tina Turner is best known, it is sometimes alleged, for her hits “Simply the Best,” “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” and “Proud Mary.” Watch her electrifying performance of Rolling on the River.
