1 dead, 1 injured in Atlanta Shooting During a Vigil for Murdered Teens

A vigil for the dead became another murder scene. One person was killed and one person was injured during a “double shooting” which was described by Atlanta Police Lt Germain Dearlove as a vigil for two teens who were shot and killed in the same complex a year ago. Investigators report that the person who was responsible for that killing a year ago has been arrested.

As reported, officers were called out around 6:30 p.m. Monday evening to 200 block of Moury Avenue SE near Prior Road SW inside The Village at Carver apartments. “Atlanta Police say two men were shot at the location.” Upon arrival, the police determined that “one of the men was dead at the scene and the other was injured.” The second man, who was wounded, “was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital” and was described as “alert, conscious and breathing.” The names of those shot have not been released.

Sabrina McGhee, who seemed to be present at the event and was a witness, stated: “They were at a balloon release for one of their friends and another friend ended up getting murdered.” FOX 5 news crews reported that “One person was seen being led away in handcuffs.”

An additional detail at the scene of the double shooting was that “officers heard what sounded like shots being fired. They ran to find the source. Police say those shots could not immediately be linked to the double shooting.” As reported, moments later, a second person was taken into custody.

The names of those taken into custody have not been released. As reported, whether either of the people handcuffed by the police would be charged in connection to the shooting. The above-referred McGhee stated, additionally: “The kids need to put the guns down because there’s too much senseless killing.” McGhee elaborated: “I don’t know what the reason was, but there’s too many killing going on with these kids.”
