GRIDIRON GIVEBACK: Falcons Fellowship Program Spotlights Talent at HBCUs

An innovative new fellowship program from the Atlanta Falcons spotlights talented students from HBCUs (historically black colleges and universities) in the Atlanta area, including Spelman College, Morehouse College, and Clark Atlanta University.

The fellowship program aims to create a job pipeline for some of the schools’ best and brightest students.

Amari Currie, a Clark Atlanta University student, applied for the AMB Sports and Entertainment (AMBSE) fellowship.

“I love interacting with the fans. I’m such a people person. I love talking to them,” he said. “Atlanta is a city full of bright and beautiful students. I think that people need to realize that there’s so much talent in our backyard.”

“Honestly, I think a lot of HBCUs are underrepresented, and we don’t really get some of the recognition we deserve, so I think a lot of kids can be discouraged,” he added.

From 11Alive:

The program was founded to give students at HBCUs a chance to shine on the industry’s business side. In its second year, enthusiasm for the program is only growing. It increased the number of departments and fellows participating, with more than 400 applicants.

The 15 fellows work in 12 different departments across the industry, from finance to live events to marketing. The 8-week program is paid and gives students hands-on experience and behind-the-scenes access to every aspect of the business.

“I know that all we need is an opportunity. There is so much talent, there’s so much passion, there’s so much enthusiasm on our campuses. So when we have the opportunity, and that door is open for us, there’s no stopping us,” said Latonda Henderson, the AMBSE Chief DEI Officer and Spelman graduate.

Wells Fargo is also partnering with the Atlanta Falcons and the AMBSE.

“We are so proud of not only this initiative, but of the students and alumni of the program who continue to impress us with their work ethic, collaboration, and passion,” said Tai Roberson, SVP, Philanthropy and Community Impact at Wells Fargo.
