This week on Doc & The Block, journalist and author Jan Jekielek stops by for a conversation you won’t want to miss, covering everything from his personal medical struggles with Guillain-Barre syndrome and his relationship with faith.
Jekielek was studying evolutionary biology at the University of Alberta when Guillain-Barré syndrome ended his lab career. The autoimmune disorder attacked his peripheral nervous system, leaving him unable to do the fine motor work his research required.
Standard medicine offered no treatment, so a friend suggested he try Falun Gong, a Chinese meditation practice. Within two months of daily practice, his neurologist confirmed complete remission.
He promised God that he would give his life to service.
Born in Canada to Polish immigrants, Jekielek has spent nearly two decades in media after a career that took him through academia, human rights advocacy, and even underground work helping Chinese dissidents escape to the West.
He’s also an award-winning documentary filmmaker, with credits including Finding Manny, DeSantis: Florida vs. Lockdowns, and The Unseen Crisis: Vaccine Stories You Were Never Told.
Jekielek is now a New York Times bestselling author. His book Killed to Order: China’s Organ Harvesting Industry and the True Nature of America’s Biggest Adversary debuted at No. 8 on the hardcover nonfiction list in March 2026.
