From rock bottom to the ballot; Darius Mayfield isn’t a career politician — and that’s the point.
In part two of this episode of Doc & The Block, Darius Mayfield continues to share his story of grit, redemption, and his run for Congress.
A self-made entrepreneur and community builder, Mayfield is running for Congress in Virginia’s 7th District with a simple promise: put a check on Washington and make government work for the people it’s supposed to serve.
His story doesn’t start in a boardroom. It starts in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where Mayfield was raised by a single mother in Section 8 housing after his father left when he was just three years old.
Gifted but directionless, he hit rock bottom as a teenager when a theft landed him behind bars for 60 days. For most, that would’ve been the end.
For Mayfield, it was the turning point.
After his release, he sought out mentors and rebuilt his life brick by brick. Guided by a successful business owner — and grounded by lessons from his uncle, a pastor — Mayfield clawed his way up the automotive industry ladder, becoming a top sales manager, general manager, and turnaround specialist known for saving failing dealerships.
Then he went bigger.
Mayfield co-founded Be American Enterprises and Tunnell Contracting, helping local businesses grow and compete — even landing major clients like Walmart.
And he didn’t forget where he came from.
Through the Darius Mayfield Foundation, Heart-A-Cause, and Community Cleanups, he’s backed school choice, championed special-needs awareness, and partnered with law enforcement and community leaders to revitalize neighborhoods.
Politically active since 2016, Mayfield previously ran for Congress in New Jersey, building unlikely coalitions and welcoming voters who felt shut out by the political class — a big-tent Republican with a lived-experience edge.
Now married to his wife Kezia and settled in Stafford County, Virginia, Mayfield says his mission is clear: keep the American Dream alive — and make Virginia the best place in the country to live, work, and raise a family.
