DOC & THE BLOCK: Overcoming Adversity: Darius Mayfield’s Inspiring Journey [PART 1]

On this episode of Doc & The Block, Darius Mayfield joins the conversation as a living, breathing case study in grit, redemption, and the American Dream — and as a congressional candidate determined to protect it for the next generation.

A self-made entrepreneur and community builder, Mayfield is now running for Congress in Virginia’s 7th District, vowing to put a check on Washington and fight for a government that works for the people it represents.

Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and raised by a single mother in Section 8 housing after his father left when he was three, Mayfield’s early life was marked by hardship.

Gifted but struggling without a father figure, he hit a breaking point as a teenager when a theft landed him in jail for 60 days — a moment that became the defining pivot of his life.

After his release, Mayfield sought out mentors and rebuilt from the ground up. Guided by a business-owner mentor and grounded by lessons from his uncle, a pastor, he climbed the ranks of the automotive industry, becoming a top sales manager, general manager, and turnaround specialist known for rescuing struggling dealerships.

He later co-founded Be American Enterprises and Tunnell Contracting, expanding his work to help local businesses thrive, including major clients like Walmart.

Mayfield has launched multiple charitable efforts, including the Darius Mayfield Foundation, Heart-A-Cause, and Community Cleanups, supporting school choice, special-needs awareness, and neighborhood revitalization alongside local leaders and law enforcement.

Politically active since 2016, he previously ran for Congress in New Jersey, building unlikely coalitions and inviting disaffected voters into a big-tent Republican vision.

Now married to his wife Kezia and settled in Stafford County, Virginia, Mayfield says his mission is simple: keep the American Dream alive — and make Virginia the best place in the country to live, work, and raise a family.
