Diploma in one hand, spatula in the other…
A freshly minted Georgia graduate grabbed his diploma — then headed straight to his Burger King shift, still in his cap and stole.
Mykale Baker clocked in at the Dacula BK restaurant on May 21 after noticing a late-night rush, determined not to let a busy shift go unworked.
Just hours after graduating from Mill Creek High School, the 18-year-old was back on the job—still wearing his stole and medals, now paired with plastic gloves as he bagged orders at the fast-food counter.
Now, the mother of a fellow high schooler has launched a GoFundMe for Mykale that’s raised more than $100,000 for the hard-working grad.
“He was so kind, so polite,” said Maria Mendoza. “Radiating joy, even after such a big day. His dedication and quiet strength really moved me. I felt called to do something to recognize that.”
According to 11Alive.com, within days, the campaign brought in more than $20,000. But as his story spread, the donations kept growing. As of Friday, the total has reached over $110,000
“While many graduates spent the night celebrating with friends and family, one young man quietly showed the world what determination looks like. Just after receiving his diploma—still proudly wearing his medals—he reported to his shift at Burger King. He didn’t do it for attention. He doesn’t even know his story went viral. But thousands of people were moved by his dedication, humility, and work ethic,” the online fundraiser reads.
