Update! Cash is King: Burger King Awards Student Who Worked Shift After Graduation [WATCH]

Remember Mykale Baker? The Georgia high schooler who worked his Burger King shift in his graduation fit? After making nearly $200K in a GoFundMe, the fast food company took notice, and awarded him some cash from the company.

Initially, Maria Mendoza, who had just watched her daughter, Daisy, graduate, stopped in for a quick snack. That’s when she noticed Mykale Baker—also freshly graduated—working behind the counter, still wearing his medals and smiling as he filled orders.

Maria was moved by his work ethic. So, she launched a fundraiser to help Mykale pay for college. It soared past $180,000.

Then came another surprise: Burger King and its foundation awarded Mykale a $10,000 scholarship — presented to him at the restaurant, surrounded by his work family.

But the generosity didn’t stop there. The foundation honored Maria’s role in amplifying the story by awarding her daughter, a neuroscience student and recent graduate, a $10,000 scholarship as well.

Donations for Mykale’s college fund are still being accepted. If you would like to donate toward Mykale’s college fund, you can do so here.
