After a car slammed into a lemonade stand and left three children critically injured, a pair of teenage sisters is turning heartbreak into hope, one cup at a time.
The crash was violent. Two of the children were airlifted with life-threatening injuries. Cheryl Fox, grandmother to one of the young victims, spoke through tears:
“Frustrated with the lady who hit my grandbaby, of course… but I’ve just prayed about it.”
The driver who hit the children will not face charges. Instead, another driver, Haley Erin McCorkle, was cited with a misdemeanor for failing to yield. Investigators say her improper turn caused the chain reaction. Speed and impairment were ruled out.
Now, a different kind of story is unfolding.
Jaiden Wells and her sister, founders of the lemonade stand Luxury Lemons, are leading a fundraiser for the injured children — kids just like them.
“We started this whole business at their age,” Jaiden said. “They didn’t even get to start anything. I just felt bad.”
Normally, Luxury Lemons donates proceeds to St. Jude’s. But this weekend, every dollar goes to the hospital bills of the three children hit on Tuesday.
