A warm spell doesn’t mean winter’s done with you.
In Augusta, the Salvation Army is teaming up with the Richmond County School System for a community-wide winter clothing drive.
Students, families, and staff are being asked to donate new or gently used coats, hats, scarves, and gloves at participating Richmond County schools.
Not in the schools? No problem. Anyone can drop items at any Salvation Army location. And if you’re the one who needs help, there’s help.
The Salvation Army’s Center of Hope offers free clothing vouchers — even if you’re not staying at the shelter. They handed out about 50 vouchers last month, and the need tends to climb in the winter.
“Folks who are struggling with making ends meet and need help whether it’s for a job interview or if you need new clothes for the school year or it’s cold and you need a jacket, you can come here to the Center of Hope and apply for a voucher and spend that voucher here at the Center of Hope voucher store or any thrift stores and it’s all completely free,” a Salvation Army representative said.
They also keep an Amazon wish list stocked year-round, so you can send what’s needed with a few clicks.
Sometimes giving back is as simple as cleaning out a closet — and knowing it’ll warm someone up.
