BACK-TO-SCHOOL BUMP: Atlanta Public Schools Boost Pay for Teachers, Bus Drivers, Nurses

Atlanta Public Schools announced Friday that several key employee groups will receive pay raises starting next school year.

Bus drivers, custodians, and paraprofessionals will get a 10% salary boost. Registered nurses will see a 1% raise, and licensed practical nurses will get a 2% increase.

The raises are part of a broader effort to reallocate resources in the district’s 2026 fiscal year budget.

APS also said all employees will receive a step increase in the upcoming school year.
Last year, the district invested $9.3 million to give teachers an 11% raise—the largest in more than a decade.

“I want to thank and give credit to the Atlanta Board of Education for continuing to support these financial initiatives for our hardworking staff members amid an increasingly challenging fiscal landscape,” said APS Superintendent Dr. Bryan Johnson in the news release. “Their support affirms the importance of investing in the people who power our mission, and who educate, support, and care for the students of Atlanta Public Schools.”

Atlanta Public Schools serves about 50,000 students across 87 campuses—making it one of Georgia’s largest school districts. That includes 59 neighborhood schools, five partner schools, 19 charter schools, two single-gender academies, and two alternative programs.
