Full-Court Kindness: Hawks Launch Atlanta Changemakers, Team Up With MLK’s Family

The Atlanta Hawks are putting community pride on the scoreboard.

The Hawks are teaming up with Be The People for a new initiative called Atlanta Changemakers — a multi-channel campaign designed to turn fan energy into real-world impact. Think storytelling, in-arena moments, and service opportunities that encourage Georgians to pitch in and make a difference.

The program debuted on MLK Day 2026 during the Hawks’ Martin Luther King Jr. Day Game, tapping into Atlanta’s deep history of leadership and civic action. The first official Atlanta Changemakers were Martin Luther King III and Arndrea Waters King, who were honored at the game.

Through their initiative, Realize The Dream, the Kings are calling on Americans to contribute 100 million hours of service by 2029 — the year that would have marked Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 100th birthday.

“Atlanta has always been a city shaped by people who chose to get involved, not stand on the sidelines,” said Martin Luther King III and Arndrea Waters King. “Atlanta Changemakers honors that tradition by reminding us that real progress comes from everyday acts of service, leadership, and courage.”

The Hawks will also roll out a three-part, documentary-style video series produced by Hawks Studios, spotlighting Atlantans who are making a difference. The first episode features Martin Luther King III and Arndrea Waters King and their push for service nationwide.

And the next Changemaker might be someone you know.

Fans can nominate community leaders from MLK Day through Feb. 24, 2026, with one grand-prize winner honored during the Hawks’ Entitlement Night home game on April 6, 2026. The winner also gets a premium suite experience during the 2026–2027 season for themselves and up to nine guests.

“We are proud to partner with Be The People in celebrating changemakers who make Atlanta stronger,” said Hawks Chief Marketing Officer Melissa Proctor. “We encourage our fans to submit nominations to help us recognize a standout leader who is influencing our city’s future in a positive way.”

The campaign builds on the Hawks’ ongoing social impact work with Stand Together, a philanthropic community focused on supporting changemakers tackling major problems. The goal is simple: use sports, entertainment, and culture to bring Atlanta together in meaningful ways.

At the heart of it all is a message Atlanta already knows by heart — this city moves forward when people show up for each other.
